Oscar Nominated Sequels (2/3)

We’re continuing our review of 2023 Oscar nominated sequels this week with Black Panther:  Wakanda Forever which was been nominated in categories including Best Actress in a Supporting Role for Angela Bassett, Best Makeup and Hairstyling, Best Costume Design, and Best Visual Effects.  Will they be able to take home the gold? 

Oscar Nominated Sequels (1/3)

We've got a need...a need to proceed with our next group of movies:  2023 Oscar nominated sequels.  There were three sequels nominated for awards in the 2023 Oscar picks.  Top Gun: Maverick is one of just 9 sequels to ever be nominated for Best Picture.  Will it take home the gold or will it stall out and go into a nosedive?

 

WARNING:  This movie just recently came out so spoiler alerts are in effect.

Rian Johnson has revived his southern super-sleuth, Benoit Blanc, for another mystery.  Five friends gather at the beckoning of their benefactor.  Little do they know, someone has invited Blanc along for what is sure to be a weekend to die for.

This week we decided to review A Bad Moms Christmas.  These moms were wild in the first movie.  Will the grandmothers keep that energy going?  Listen to find out what we thought about this holiday sequel.

Ep. 186:  Enola Holmes 2

This week we’re reviewing the recently released Enola Holmes 2.  The first movie toon Netflix by storm.  Will the sequel keep the viewers just as entertained?

This week the guys are sticking with a movie from the classic Omen horror franchise.  How does it stack up against newer horror franchises with huge budgets and digital effects?  Listen to find out!

Why does everyone tell us we should watch this movie?  What's the big deal?  We had plenty of stiff competition for this week's movie, so it was a hard choice.  We decided we were being too rigid with our episode picks, so we decided on Magic Mike XXL.

This week we're going back to college with 22 Jump Street.

This week we decided to have a little light-hearted fun, so we're watching Neighbors 2: Sorority Rising.  

We wanted to make sure and get at least one doggone in for the upcoming Independence Day weekend.  The fact that Lady and the Tramp II:  Scamp's Adventure was actually set on Independence Day had our tails wagging.  

We decided this week to review the recent video game movie sequel, Sonic the Hedgehog 2.  If you're a fan of the classic games, you definitely need to listen to this episode.

IS CHIP ‘N DALE: RESCUE RANGERS A REBOOT OR A SEQUEL?

We had some differences of opinion on whether this movie is a reboot of the 90’s hit, Chip ‘n Dale Rescue Rangers, or a sequel to 1988’s Who Framed Roger Rabbit.  Instead of just debating amongst ourselves, we decided to bring the discussion to our listeners.  What do you think?

It's May Day, so we decided to go back and take a look at the sequel to 1973's The Wicker Man...wait...or is it a spiritual sequel?  Or a companion piece?  Eh...better just check it out for yourselves.

It's been 6 years since we lost Prince and we've been thinking a lot about that lately.  We decided we would take the opportunity to review the 1990 sequel to the iconic Purple Rain.  So take some time to join us as we talk about Graffiti Bridge.

Well, we've been waiting to review this one for a couple of years now.  He's not exactly an Easter Bunny, but Peter Rabbit should be good enough for the Deuce.  Relax, eat a handful of marshmallow peeps, and listen to the episode.

We have to admit, we love a good mystery...and Agatha Christie is the Queen of Mystery.  Her stories have been adapted many times over, but there is only one sequel with director Kenneth Branagh at the helm.   If you liked Murder on the Orient Express, then you'll want to check out this episode.

(Director Cuts part 1 of 3)

 

Being a director can be tough.  You have a vision for how you see your project coming to life, but that doesn’t always come to fruition.  Producers, studios, and any number of influences can alter the picture in a million little ways.  Occasionally, a director has a chance to come back and show audiences how they would have done it differently if they had another chance.  The Richard Donner Cut of Superman II is just one example of a director getting a redo.

In this sequel, we get a glimpse of action star Colin Firth in all of his butt kicking glory.  He’s back with co-star Taron Egerton in the 2^nd installment of the Kingsman series.

After seeing Colin Firth in last week’s review of Momma Mia! Here We Go Again, we decided to review another of his movies.  This week we’re looking at Bridget Jones: The Edge of Reason. 

It's Super Bowl Sunday, so it's only fitting that we review a football movie sequel.  But that's not how we roll here at The Deuce, so here's the jukebox musical, Mamma Mia! Here We Go Again.  

We decided that one tribute to the great Sidney Poitier was not enough, but we also wanted to pay tribute to the late actor/director Peter Bogdanovich.  Fortunately, we were able to cover both with To Sir, with Love II. 

 

Nearly 30 years had passed since teacher Mark Thackeray molded the minds of troubled young students in London’s East End.  Could he do it again, this time in Chicago?

This week we decided to review the 1970 sequel to In the Heat of the Night in honor of the late Sidney Poitier.
